The PlayStation 5 version of Rocket League will be updated today to add a 120Hz mode, Psyonix announced on the RL Items for PlayStation Blog.
The developers explain that a new "Video Quality" selector is added to the options menu, with quality and performance options.
The Quality mode will work at 4K resolution, with HDR and a frame-rate of 60FPS. HDR will require both an HDR10 compatible TV and an HDMI 2.0 cable or higher. Playing at 4K, of course, requires a TV of that resolution, while those who use a 1080p TV will get supersampling from 4K.
The Performance mode, on the other hand to buy Rocket League items, works with a resolution of 2688x1512 (70% of 4K), at 120FPS and with HDR.
In this mode the interface will be rendered equally at 4K if you have a television with that resolution. To view content with HDR and 120FPS, an HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed cable and a television compatible with these two technologies are required. Users with 1080p TVs using performance mode, meanwhile, will see the game at 1080p with supersampling from 2688x1512.
Interestingly, all these improvements are being applied to the game through its backward compatible version, since Psyonix has not released a native version for Sony's next-generation console.
